What's In Mrs. Selm's Purse???

What a fun week it has been!  This week we learned that good readers sometimes have to infer when they read.  The author doesn't always tell us what we we need to know so we have to be good detectives to figure out the meaning.  We learned to use the following thinking stems:
*I think it means...
*Perhaps...
*I infer...
*Maybe it means...

Today we practiced making inferences and the kids got to see things in Mrs. Selm's purse!  Here are a few things they found:  keys, wallet, lip gloss, cell phone, medicine, mints, etc.

The kids worked with a partner to pick two items and infer what it meant or why I had those items in my purse.

Yesterday we worked on compound words so each student was given a card with part of a word and they had to find their partner that had the other matching half to make a compound word.  They were such hard workers!  Check out some of their inferences and partner work!
